As more cameras and production devices rely on wireless connectivity, major events are creating a new challenge: public 5G networks can become congested precisely when production teams need them most.
Vislink’s DOME provides an alternative, creating a dedicated private 5G network for broadcast and live production applications. Rather than competing with thousands of spectators for capacity on the public mobile network, production teams can operate cameras and other connected devices over their own managed 5G infrastructure.
It is an approach becoming increasingly relevant for major sports and live events, particularly for cameras where mobility and flexibility are more important than a traditional dedicated RF link. Private 5G can support applications such as roaming cameras, body cameras, behind-the-scenes coverage, and other production feeds that need reliable connectivity across a large venue or event site.
For Gencom, DOME adds another option to the wireless production toolkit. Our role is not simply to supply the technology, but to help determine where private 5G makes sense, design the network around the production requirements, and integrate it with the cameras, contribution systems, IP infrastructure, and wider broadcast workflow.
As live production becomes increasingly connected, private 5G provides an interesting middle ground between public cellular networks and traditional broadcast RF, giving production teams greater control over their own wireless infrastructure.
