Maori Television Service (MTS)

Launch Gallery

In 2002 Gencom was appointed as Systems Integrator for this project and this new station went to air in March 2004.

Maori Television is a new service specialising in broadcasting in the Maori language.

Gencom was given a very general brief to the requirements and was left to design and build a turnkey green-field television station.

A very IT centric approach was taken for this project as is detailed later. High operational efficiency was desired as well as modern technologies utilising the latest in IT type video systems. Being highly IT focused it was essential that the business IT infrastructure had to be driven from television needs, and so Gencom took over the role of IT systems design as well to ensure that these TV needs were met.

The station comprises one large traditional studio and control room, a news area studio, 4 edit suites, audio post edit, graphics area, central technical area (CTA), equipment room (CAR) and presentation. On top of this, there is a large desktop operation of news-room computer system (iNews), desktop browse and editing (NewsBrowse), and video file management (Proximity).
