In 2002 the Americas Cup international yachting event was held on the Auckland waters. TVNZ as the host broadcaster, commissioned Gencom to design, build and staff the International Broadcast Centre and associated facilities, and also two Studios at the Viaduct Basin.

The IBC project involved building a central infrastructure to accommodate up to ten international broadcasters at any one time. This included routing, master control, talkback, camera control, three edit suites, graphics, and ten client booths ranging from simple voice over needs to a full three camera production studio and control room.

At the waterfront, Gencom also built a three-camera studio and control room for TVNZ local coverage, a media centre, and a second three-camera studio and control room for a broadcast client..
