Since 2000 Gencom has provided TelstraClear with all of their head-ends for cable (analog and digital) and satellite. This is still an ongoing expansion project and continues today.
In 2000 Gencom was engaged to provide and build an MPEG II head-end to serve TelstraClears’ analog and digital cable television strategy. Gencom installed the equipment adjacent to existing cable plant and the upgrade included a 128 x 128 video and stereo audio router as well as three Harmonic 8+1 MPEG II encoding streams and associated transmission and interfacing equipment. In addition to serving future Wellington requirements, the system also feeds the Christchurch regional head-end. Reference:
Simultaneously with the installation of the Wellington super head-end, Gencom installed a digital decoding system along with both a digital QAM head-end and a 64 channel analog head-end. In addition a 6 channel MPEG encoding stream was implemented to accommodate local channels. As with Wellington this project was run on a very tight time frame with no difficulties arising. Reference:
Following the implementation of the Wellington and Christchurch head-ends and infrastructure, Gencom was commissioned in early 2001, to build a channel preparation area for Telstra Clear. This involved building an edit suite, voice over booth, two encoding workstation areas, a viewing area and a master control/presentation room, including disc and robotic type play-out. This project was completed in mid 2001 within the time frame. Reference:
Gencom was contracted to supply and install a three stream head-end and associated transmission equipment to serve a satellite uplink in this project. Tandberg equipment was specified in this project. Reference: |
