Launch Gallery

In 2004 BBC contracted Gencom Technology to build its two new News Bureau facilities in Washington-DC and New York City.

The Washington Bureau is one of the largest BBC bureaus in the world, and comprises of 5 digital Radio Studio / Control rooms, a manned TV Studio and Master Control Room, a “Self operated” TV Studio, a Newsroom with positions for over 40 journalists, three

Edit Suites and a large Record Bank for monitoring and recording the many outside feeds from CNN, ABC, NBC etc, and for playing out feeds to London and other places.

The package of equipment used in Washington includes JVC Camera Systems, Quartz Router Systems, Ensemble Processing Modules, Ross Video Synergy Production Switchers, and DHD Digital Broadcast Mixing Consoles. All of these items are IT dependent and thus the Bureau has a high component of IT based systems and infrastructure.

New York City News Bureau comprises of a sophisticated News Room, one Digital Radio Studio, one TV Studio, one single camera self-operated TV Studio, one self-operated Radio Studio, Record Bank and Two Edit Suites.

All design and documentation, furniture manufacturing and some pre build wiring was carried out in NZ. All engineering and wiring personnel was sourced from Gencom NZ.
