Gencom was contracted to build 3 x 16 camera digital outside broadcast vehicles and 1 fixed chassis OB vehicle for On Site Broadcasting (OSB), the company contracted to Sky Television to provide sports facilities in New Zealand.

The time frame was almost impossibly tight because the design had still to be finalised and the trailers to be ordered.

Using locally custom built trailers, and largely GVG and Sony equipment; the first two vehicles were completed at Gencom’s factory within 8 weeks of receiving the trailers. The detailed design completed within this period was also in sync with the building program.

The third trailer was completed shortly afterwards within 4 weeks of receiving the trailer. All three trailers were identical and have Kalypso Vision Mixers, GVG routers and Modular products as well as Sony cameras and monitors. The vehicles are equipped with EVS sports recorders as well as GVG Profiles.

A fourth digital OB truck was added to the fleet in June 2002. This vehicle is built on a Mitsubishi chassis and has a 12 camera capability. It also uses a GVG Kalypso vision mixer as per the other 3 trailers. Again the time frame was very tight but the vehicle was completed on time and within budget 4 weeks from delivery of the chassis.
